On a rural site with undulating topography the proposal responds by structuring the functional zoning around a series of courtyards. Each age group is given a sense of place and opportunity for self expression through a range of visual, pedagogic and play activities. Protective small courtyards are the focus for the kindergarten and primary sections, larger courtyards make space for the interaction of the whole school community.
The change in levels across the site was used to create two ground planes, lower and upper. The lower ground is semi-public accommodating the auditorium, cafeteria, administration and sports activities. The upper ground contains the classrooms and library.
Event spaces are woven into the site to foster social interaction between students, teachers and parents. A social garden links the Junior and Senior schools with wifi access facilitating interaction between age groups. Gentle ramps and stairs link the two levels.
