The design proposal for the Sovann Komar School is based on the fundamentals of sustainable development while taking into consideration both international standards and local customs.
The Mandala approach is based on geometric and cultural forms found in Buddhist mandala drawings.
FREE SPACES / Allows for the interaction of students within the framework of the school but outside the classroom.
FREE GROUND / Lifting the classroom buildings off the ground creates a distinction between the public, administrative areas and the private instructional areas.
FREE FACADE / The composition of the free façade is a comprised of both technical and cultural forms. The horizontality of the design reinforces its relationship to the ground.
ROOF GARDEN / The roof garden is part of the environment and pedagogical program for the building. There are landscape elements on all levels of the building.
FREE ENERGY / The building will be designed around reducing the energy loading as well as taking advantage of readily available energy source like solar hot water.
